Portraiture Photograph

There is nothing more personal than a portraiture photograph. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, it’s also know as portrait photography.  A portrait is the capture by means of photography of a person or a group of small people.

The main goal when taking a portrait is to catch the likeness, mood, and the overall personality of the subject.  It’s also common to try and capture a persons face in the portrait.

Not A Snapshot

When it comes to taking a portrait, it’s important to know that it is not the same thing as a snapshot. The object in a portrait is usually in a still position facing the camera.

It’s also worth mentioning that people in portraits are not always professional models. A lot of times a portrait will contain a family, a graduating student, or someone from a wedding.

Uses For Portraits

Portraits are used for a variety of things. One of the common uses for a portrait is for weddings. Another thing that is very common is for photographers to take portraits of authors, which are then used in the jackets of books.

Have you ever seen a yearbook? Chances are you have. If you flip through it, you’ll most likely see portraits of all the students. This is another popular usage for portraits.

Regardless if you are a photographer or not, it’s important to learn about portrait photography. It’s one of the most used forms there is and it never hurts to learn more about it.
